Just before the release of the Controversy album in October 1981, Prince and company went to Los Angeles to open for the Rolling Stones. Many Stones fans in attendance did not respond well to this bikini-clad, high-heel wearing artist from Minneapolis, even shouting racist slurs and throwing food and bottles at the stage. The band stuck around for about 20 minutes before Prince walked off the stage and flew back to Minneapolis. He was eventually convinced to return for the second show, two days later.
